Base vineyard

We ensure quality through regular inspections and cooperation with institutes.
Base vineyard is a special type of vineyard that is not primarily planted for grape production. Grapes are a by-product — the main yield is wood, or scions, used for grafting. Vines planted in a base vineyard belong to the "base" category, meaning they are specially cultivated material intended for further propagation.
At Trsnica Vrhpolje, we maintain approximately 5 hectares of base vineyards planted with Slovenian and international clones of grapevine varieties.
We produce our own scions of the following clones: Merlot cl. 519 and cl. 349, Cabernet Sauvignon cl. 685 and cl. 15, Chardonnay cl. 76 and cl. 96, Sauvignon cl. 160, cl. A17-1, and cl. E226, Syrah cl. 524, Marselan cl. 980, Pinot Noir (Modri pinot) cl. 459, Zelen cl. SI-26, Pinela cl. SI-28, Malvasia (Malvazija) cl. SI-37, Refosco (Refošk) cl. SI-35, Ribolla Gialla (Rebula) cl. SI-33 and cl. SI-32, and Welschriesling (Laški rizling) cl. A3-2 and cl. A3-3. In addition, we maintain base vineyards of Yellow Muscat (Rumeni muškat), Vitovska Grganja, and various table grape varieties. Scions of other varieties and clones offered in our product range are sourced from certified growers both in Slovenia and abroad.
Every vintner wants a vineyard that thrives and produces abundantly for many years. Healthy grafted vine plants are essential for longevity and vineyard health.
We are always ready to advise you on choosing the best combination of variety and rootstock based on your soil and climate conditions.
